Rose Pellar has been practicing law since 1997 and brings more than 28 years of experience in Family Law and Wills & Estates. Her career has blended the independence of sole practice with valuable roles in respected Ontario firms, giving her a deep, well-rounded understanding of how to support clients during some of life’s most difficult transitions.

Rose began her legal career in Toronto as a sole practitioner, handling Family Law, Wills & Estates, and early experience in Criminal and Real Estate Law. After moving to Barrie in 2000, she worked with several well-established firms including Oatley Purser, McGee & Fryer, and Galbraith Family Law, focusing primarily on Family Law.

In 2006, Rose moved to Wasaga Beach and opened her own practice – Pellar Family Law. Over the years, she became well known for her steady guidance, problem-solving approach, and commitment to fair, cost-effective resolutions.

Rose briefly contemplated retirement but her expertise was requested by JMS Law in Barrie, where she was invited to mentor younger lawyers and assist during a significant leadership transition. A one-year contract evolved into four, during which Rose focused on helping clients resolve their matters without going to court while also maintaining a busy Wills & Estates practice.

When JMS Law merged with Chapman Steffler LLP in 2025, Rose felt inspired once more to be a sole practitioner – serving her community directly and locally. On December 1, 2025, she returned to sole practice as Pellar Law.

Pellar Law accepts a limited number of Family Law matters—including Cohabitation Agreements, Marriage Contracts, Separation Agreements, and Uncontested Divorces. Rose takes on only cases that can be resolved through negotiation rather than litigation.

After nearly three decades in practice, Rose has concluded that only the rare, exceptional case requires court intervention. Her goal is to help clients:

• resolve issues respectfully
• avoid unnecessary conflict
• protect their emotional and financial well-being
• reduce legal costs
• minimize stress on children
• and move forward to rebuild their lives

Clients appreciate Rose’s calm presence, clear advice, and ability to help them make decisions that will stand the test of time—not just the emotions of the moment.

Rose relates deeply to the people she serves because, in her words, she has “been there.” She has experienced divorce and the journey of rebuilding, and later remarried in 2006. She understands the emotional toll of separation and the importance of resolving matters both quickly and thoughtfully.

She reminds clients that while emotions may feel overwhelming today, clarity returns—and decisions made with care and good information will serve them far better in the long run.

Rose believes strongly in planning for those we love. She often reminds clients that while we cannot take material possessions with us, we can leave behind clarity, ease, and care through thoughtful estate planning.

Rose helps individuals to understand the importance of Wills and Powers of Attorney and she ensures that their wishes are accurately represented so that those they want to benefit from their estate will in fact receive their inheritance. Too many ill-prepared Wills have been contested. 

Estate Trustees (Executors) named in a Will, or family members entitled to apply to be the Estate Trustee where there is no Will, will greatly benefit from the help and advice that Rose provides to ensure that they receive the Certificate of Appointment of Estate Trustee necessary for them to call in and distribute the assets of the estates.

Outside of her practice, Rose is an avid golfer and gardener who loves making the most of Ontario summers. She deeply values time with family and finds joy in coaching and encouraging women to step into their best selves.
